Domenik Hixon cleared waivers allowing the New York Giants to place him on the waived/injured list, meaning he’s property of the team on injured reserve.
Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reported the news, and that the Giants took somewhat of a risk by exposing the wide receiver and returner to the waiver wire. Not often is someone going to claim a player headed to IR, especially someone like Hixon who will need to recover from a torn ACL.
The upside of the move was that it cleared a spot on the 80-man roster for the Giants. Had the team placed Hixon directly on injured reserve and not exposed him to the waiver wire, he would have counted against the club’s roster total heading into training camp. Hixon’s salary this season is $1.684 million and he is scheduled to be a free agent after the year.
