The New York Giants are going to sign Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman, according to his agent, Erik Burkhardt.
Freeman worked out for the team this week.
Ironically, the Giants were the team that stifled Freeman in his lone start after being traded to Minnesota last season. During a 23-7 loss, Freeman completed just 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards and an interception. That was his last start for the season, which followed three starts with the Buccaneers before his benching there.
Freeman was once considered the franchise quarterback of the Bucs. In 2012, Freeman threw for 4,065 yards, 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
He was expected to take a leap last season but fell out of favor with Greg Schiano. It's clear he's now regarded as a backup at this stage of his NFL career.
This follows the news that Eli Manning had ankle surgery after spraining it during the Giants' regular season finale.
