The New York Giants are planning for some changes in 2013 after the defending Super Bowl champions failed to reach the playoffs.

Their first big one has been announced as the team will not return to the University at Albany for training camp after 16 summers there. The decision has been made for the Giants to remain at home, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Per the report, the lockout in 2011 led the Giants to remain at home that summer (they returned to the campus in 2012) and the team won the Super Bowl that season. Perhaps that is playing into the decision.

“We are fortunate to have a facility in the Timex Performance Center that allows us to hold training camp here,” owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said in a statement released by the club. “We will evaluate our training camp situation on an ongoing basis and certainly would not rule out a return to Albany in the future if it makes sense for both parties.”

No one is ruling out a future return to Albany, about a two-hour drive from East Rutherford, N.J. But nothing is in the works.
