Quarterback was investigated for sexual assault, but not charged Aaron Wilson
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has violated the NFL's personal conduct policy, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said today.
Roethlisberger was investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a 20-year-old Georgia woman, but wasn't charged with a crime.
He's expected to be suspended by the league.
"I believe firmly as you know, and we've talked about it before, that all of us in the NFL have to live up to certain standards," Goodell said during an appearance on Dan Patrick's radio program. "That includes our players, coaches, commissioners, everybody. When somebody doesn't meet that standard, then there will be consequences. There has been a violation.
"The issue here is with respect to a pattern of behavior and bad judgments. You do not have to be convicted or even charged of a crime to be able to demonstrate that you've violated a personal conduct policy and reflect poorly not only on themselves, but all of their teammates, every NFL player in the league and everyone associated with the NFL."
Goodell emphasized that he hasn't made up his mind on what decision he'll make and hasn't informed the Steelers of what he'll do.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has said there's no time set for when Roethlisberger will be punished, but the Washington Post reported it will be Wednesday.
