Jonathan Goodwin has accepted a pay reduction and that will likely mean he sticks with the San Francisco 49ers this season.
The veteran center has his base salary reduced from $3.7 million to $2.5 million, according to Matt Maiocco of Comcast Bay Area, a pay cut of $1.2 million. In turn, the 49ers guaranteed $1 million of his base salary.
The move reduced Goodwin’s salary cap from just more than $5 million to roughly $3.8 million and will help the team fit in remaining draft picks under the cap.
Goodwin joined the team in 2011 and has made 70 consecutive starts in the NFL. At 34, it is fair to wonder if this will be his final season with the club.
