Grand jury indicts Josh Brent on intoxication manslaughter charge

A Dallas County, Texas, grand jury has indicted Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Brent has been accused of drunk driving the night he flipped his Mercedes and passenger Jerry Brown Jr., a teammate with the Cowboys, was killed. Reports are Brent, 24, had a blood alcohol limit more than double the legal limit of 0.08.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Dallas County District Attorney Heath Harris has indicated the state will prosecute Brent “to the fullest” extent of the law. The second-degree felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Brent did time previously in Illinois for a DUI arrest.

Bail for Brent was reduced from $500,000 to $100,000 last week. No trial date has been set.
