Is this the only site where Packer fans have nothing to say?
Reading the local comments, it's doom and gloom. Thompson has no idea what he's doing. The packers have the worse defense in the NFL, etc. Hopefully, it's a vocal minority, but you have to appreciate how many superb general managers reside in Wisconsin. I can't wait to see this years version of the defense. Capers, who knows the offense can cover his bets, may have a gambling, go for it defense. I don't think it's an accident that guys like Shields and Burnett have slipped in. But the key is the defensive line, not the secondary. How well Raji does can determine this defense.
How could anyone not notice (fans that is) that Capers is just messing around so far. The idea is to try and identify players and try scenarios. Chillar is back to ILB, but his role is nickle unless someone goes down. Sheilds fielding punts didn't work well either, but he'll probably replace Bush as gunner. Outside of RB being decimated by little injuries, we're better off then I thought. Jackson has done a very good job. Kuhn did well as a halfback. Porter looks like he can play. Starks will probably be puped or IR'ed.
Wow, I can't believe that some people didn't notice that we were missing six starters on defense against the Seahawks. Do you people even bother to watch who's on the field when we play?
I'm afraid it is. Team using too many players for any kind of continuity, but what concerns me is that no one seems to be stepping up except Zomba. Everyone seemed flat. Special teams ain't special.
Is our defense something to be concerned about? I didn't get to watch the game yet only seeing the last 10 minutes or so. It didn't look like our defense was doing so good, I know Matthews didn't play. I don't know about Woodson or Harris, I am sure they didn't see much time. It took some adjusting time to get it locked in for the second half of last season, and I hope this is something that they can have under control by the first game, if it is as bad as it seems to me.
Shields will make the team, but he won't be returning kicks. He has rare CB skills and would be a double threat if could reliably field kicks.
Before you spend lotsa time on handles, let'em make the roster!
"The Shield"?, I think if he can't catch a ball he'll be calling himself "Unemployed".
What do you guys think a this new handle for Sam Shields: "THE SHIELD"? If its already out there then please let me know...I thought of that name in recognition of his coverage skills.
Seems like every year for the past three or four pre-seasons we're talking about Hawk finally being a terror on defense and it never seems to pan out. Hopefully Dom's defense will finally bring the swooping Hawk out of A.J.
Hawk is a solid, but not great LB. He is also due $10m next year under his current contract. He won't be getting this - they will either cut him or ask to renegotiate his contract. I think the Packers are beginning to plan for the possibility that Hawk won't be back in 2011 and are finding out if they have anything in Bishop.
