Carolina Panthers star defensive end Greg Hardy is due back in court July 15 on a misdemeanor assault case involving a former girlfriend.

THe Panthers open training camp on July 25.

Charged with assault and threats of violence, Hardy allegedly attacked Nicole Holder, a woman he had been dating. He's been ordered to stay away from her. She's been subpoenaed to appear in court.

Hardy, who led the Panthers with 15 sacks last season, was ordered to turn in his weapons, which included shotguns and semi-automatic weapons.

Hardy hasn't commented on the situation.

Hardy allegedly threw Holder into a tub, choked her and threw her onto a couch covered with guns, according to an arrest affidavit.

What caused the dispute?

According to Holder, her "short-lived relationship" with rapper Nelly angered Hardy.
