The New England Patriots aren't placing injured star tight end Rob Gronkowski on the reserve physically unable to perform list, according to ESPN.

That means he'll be on the active roster and eligible to practice and play in games.

This doesn't mean Gronkowski is ready for the season-opener against the Buffalo Bills or even the next game, per the report.

Gronkowski could get back on the field during the first six games, though, after undergoing offseason back and forearm surgeries.

For now, the Patriots will go with tight ends Michael Hoomanawanui and Zach Sudfeld until Grodkowski returns.
