Packers wide receiver has security with pay day Brad Biggs
The devil is in the details and the breakdown of Donald Driver’s contract proves that the wide receiver will likely be with the Green Bay Packers this season.
Driver’s status has been the source of much speculation this offseason while he became a champion on “Dancing With the Stars.” The franchise’s all-time leader in receptions took a significant pay cut but as Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette details, there is enough guaranteed money to make it likely he sticks.
Per Demovsky, Driver has a $1.2 million roster bonus that is guaranteed, money the Packers will not want to give Driver as a retirement bonus. He has a base salary of $1.1 million in his re-worked contract.
The $2.3 million Driver stands to earn this season represents a pay cut of more than 50 percent. He was due to make $5 million this season. For a 37-year-old performer who will not be a major factor in the offense, he’s getting good pay and it’s likely he’ll get that for 16 games of service.
