Former N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson has wrapped up his visit with Bret Bielema and the Wisconsin Badgers, and according to a tweet from Keith Arnold of NBCSports.com, the former Wolfpack signal-caller could be taking snaps under center this fall for the Badgers.
Ben Worgull of BadgerNation.com initially reported that Wilson's visit with the coaching staff and some of the Badger players went quite well. According to Worgull, Wilson visited Camp Randall Stadium and a replay of the team's exciting nighttime win over then-No. 1 Ohio State last season was aired on the Jumbotron.
Rumors were making their rounds late Wednesday afternoon that Wilson gave Badger coaches a commitment, and Arnold's tweet makes it very possible that Wilson will enroll at the Big Ten school.
The 5-11, 201-pounder already graduated from N.C. State, so he’s eligible to play right away in 2011 without sitting out under normal transfer rules. The QB and the Wolfpack went their separate ways after head coach Tom O’Brien wanted the three-year starter to be more committed to the program and participate in spring drills rather than play minor-league baseball. Of course, Wilson still has a commitment to the Colorado Rockies franchise -- a situation that will have to be resolved if he still wants to pursue a pro baseball career after playing a final season of college football.
In 2010, Wilson threw for 3,663 yards and 28 touchdowns while leading the Wolfpack to a victory over West Virginia in the Champs Sports Bowl.
Now, if he does enroll at Wisconsin, the question is whether he can possibly learn the Badgers' playbook in such a short amount of time and beat out Jon Budmayr for the starting job in fall camp.
