Linebacker wasn't granted medical redshirt by NCAA Aaron Wilson
University of Hawaii linebacker Brashton Satele wasn't granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and will be available for selection in the NFL draft next week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The NCAA had been considering an appeal of Satele asking for a medical redshirt, and Satele had been granted a waiver allowing him to participate in spring practice.
He missed all of last season with a left shoulder injury, a torn labrum.
Satele was already redshirted during the 2005 season.
Satele is a 6-foot-1, 241-pounder with 4.62 speed in the 40-yard dash and a 32-inch vertical leap.
The middle linebacker participated in some of the seven-on-seven work.
"It was nice to watch, but it was kind of hard. I really wanted to get out there," Satele told Hawaii reporters recently. "I haven't hit anybody in over a year already."
