The Washington Redskins signed Brandon Meriweather in the offseason with hopes he would boost their secondary.
He hasn’t played in a single game but that could change on Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles visit FedEx Field. The Redskins have listed Meriweather as questionable. They also listed wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who has appeared in only three games, as questionable.
Meriweather originally injured two ligaments in his left knee in a nasty collision at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears in the second week of preseason. According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Meriweather re-injured the knee two weeks later and then again in a freak pregame accident when he was to make his debut. To say it’s been a frustrating start to his career in Washington would be an understatement.
“This is the best I’ve felt for a while,” Meriweather said. “I’d be ecstatic (to play on Sunday). Guys have been working hard, trying to keep the ship together, and it’d be great just to be out there with them guys.”
Garcon is also in the mix and would be a boost to quarterback Robert Griffin III. He has missed six games with a torn capsule in the second toe of his right foot, a painful injury. We’ll see if help finally arrives for the Redskins.
