Heyward-Bey intrigued by opportunity in Detroit

Darrius Heyward-Bey visited the Detroit Lions and called the possibility of joining forces with Matthew Stafford “very appealing.”

The free-agent wide receiver left without a contract but he sounds intrigued by the possibility of signing with the Lions after four underwhelming seasons as a member of the Oakland Raiders. Heyward-Bey was the seventh pick in the 2009 draft after running a blazing time at the NFL Scouting Combine but he was an inconsistent producer in an offense that was constantly changing quarterbacks.

Perhaps a fresh start with an established passer like Stafford is what Heyward-Bey needs. He previously visited the Indianapolis Colts, who might have more need at the position than the Lions.

The sky’s the limit” with the Lions,” Heyward-Bey said, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Adding Reggie (Bush) already with Calvin (Johnson) and Matt and (Brandon) Pettigrew, (Tony) Scheffler, all these guys; you still got the vet Nate (Burleson), you got a young guy in (Ryan) Broyles who’s coming off an injury but still brings a lot. It’d be nice to be a part of something like that, so I’ve just got to sit back and think about it.”
