Although there's been a lot of complaints about the NFL pushing the draft back to May from its usual April date, the ratings were high for the first round Thursday night.

ESPN said it had a rating of 6.8 overnight for a 48-percent increase from last year and a peak rating of 8.0 when the Dallas Cowboys were on the clock and people were wondering if they were going to dratt Johnny Manziel.

NFL Network said it did an 8.64 preliminary rating, up 50 percent from last year.

That could be the impetus the league wants to justify potentially keeping the draft in May going forward.

The highest ratings from ESPN were in Cleveland as the Browns took Manziel.
