PHILADELPHIA—The league office is going to have its hands full reviewing the game tape from Sunday night's Eagles-Giants showdown.
Eagles kick returner/cornerback Ellis Hobbs was taken off the field on a stretcher moments ago after suffering a vicious helmet to helmet hit to open the second half of Sunday night’s game in Philadelphia. Hobbs was decked by Giants defensive end Dave Tollefson and lay motionless on the field for several moments before flashing the “thumbs up” sign on his way off the gridiron.
No flag was thrown on the play.
Tollefson’s hit marked the second helmet-to-helmet shot that has taken place in just over two quarters of action at Lincoln Financial Field. Philly cornerback Asante Samuel was flagged 15 yards for a hit to the head on Giants receiver Derek Hagan back in the second quarter.
The Eagles still lead 13-3 but are in Giants’ territory and on the move.
UPDATE: David Akers just drove home a 28-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 16-3 lead.
UPDATE II: Per an announcement in the press box, Hobbs has "full movement of his extremities," but is out for the game.
