New Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner says the organization will move quickly after the Dec. 30 finale against Pittsburgh to determine what direction the franchise will go in, says the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Chiefly at stake are the fates of head coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert, both of whom might be let go as new owner Jimmy Haslam's group seeks to put its own stamp on things with the Browns.
Rumors have been swirling that Mike Lombardi could be a candidate to be the GM if Heckert is let go, and in the report, the names of Nick Saban, Chip Kelly and former Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels have been floated as head coaching candidates if Shurmur does not survive the purge.
The Browns are 5-9 and have played much better over the season's past month. Whether that is enough to save one or both among Shurmur and Heckert is not yet known.
