The New England Patriots re-signed safety James Ihedigbo on Friday, according to the Boston Herald.
Ihedigbo underwent shoulder surgery in the off-season, and had wanted to re-sign with New England. However, the Patriots wanted to make sure the former UMass star was healthy before extending a contract offer.
In the past, Ihedigbo had made his mark on special teams for the Patriots, but last year due to injuries and ineffectiveness from other players was pressed into duty at safety and performed adequately.
