Pittsburgh Steelers veteran cornerback Ike Taylor has apologized for being ejected for fighting New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks Saturday night.

"I should know better," Taylor said. "I apologize to my teammates, apologize to my fans. I lost my cool, but it won't happen again."

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin characterized the exchange as "dumb."

The fight began four plays into the game. Both players were kicked out.

"I was blocking downfield and trying to finish my block," Nicks said. "The next thing I knew, he was throwing punches, so I tried to defend myself."

And Steelers linebacker James Farrior said that Taylor needs to think about what his ejection means for the entire team.

"That's a selfish play," Farrior said. "You've got to think about more than just yourself. We need him out there. He understands that, but this one doesn't count. That's the good thing."
