San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle is expected to be in heavy demand as a free agent.

As one of the top players at his position, he's not going to be easy to retain unless the Chargers pay him serious money.

Weddle said he prefers to remain in San Diego with the Chargers.

That said, several league sources indicate it's going to be an expensive undertaking to keep him on the AFC West club's roster.

"I’ve always said I want to be back in San Diego," Weddle told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We’ll see if it’s both ways. I think we know how they feel, but you never know until it’s done.”

If a deal is going to be struck with the Chargers, Weddle expects it to happen fast.

“I’m sure something will get done quickly if it gets done (with the Chargers),” Weddle said. “If not, I’ll see what’s out there. I think a lot of teams out there will be interested in me. It will be an exciting few days, for sure."
