Go ahead, fire up the Favre rumor mill again.

This time it’s Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay who is either toying with the idea of trying to add the veteran quarterback or pretending like it’s April 1 on Aug. 21.

Irsay, who announced on his Twitter page previously that Peyton Manning might not be ready for the regular season, now tweets that he’s in Hattiesburg, Miss. He jokes about making a right or a left at the “Firechief.”

Could the Colts be in line for a veteran backup? Sure. Would Favre have any interest in carrying a clipboard when Manning is healthy? We can’t imagine how that would stoke his competitive fire.

Maybe Irsay is just having some fun at the expense of, well, all of us. Or maybe he’s trying to lure Favre out of Mississippi.

Stay tuned. As always.
