There seems to be some conflicting information when it comes to the future of veteran special teams ace Tavares Gooden.
The linebacker took to his Twitter account this afternoon and announced that he was retiring. Gooden was a key contributor to the San Francisco 49ers last season, making 13 tackles to rank third on the roster.
“I think it’s time for me to retire and move on to the next chapter in life. Livvvv,” Gooden wrote on his Twitter account.
But Gooden’s agent Sean Kiernan told Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News that Gooden is not necessarily done and a free-agent visit is scheduled for next week. Hmmmmm.
Gooden reportedly has visited the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers already. According to Inman, the Niners do not have interest in bringing him back.
We’ll see if Gooden goes ahead and makes the planned visit next week. If he does, it will be an indicator he’s having second thoughts himself about still playing.
