San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos made it official on Tuesday what had been speculated earlier - that head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith will be back next season.

The Chargers made the announcement, ending earlier beliefs that Turner and/or Smith would not survive San Diego's six-game losing streak in midseason and missing the playoffs for a second straight year. In fairness to both, the Chargers were wracked by injuries this season, especially on the offensive line and also lost tight end Antonio Gates for a while as well.

After an 8-8 finish, Turner and Smith get another shot to get the Chargers back on the right track, despite what just a few weeks ago looked like very long odds of that happening.

Nice move Dean, keeping Norv and A.J. just means it will be another year without a ring. How many years in a row now is it? I mean not even one ring since SUPERBOWL One ...That's quite the little organization they are running down there near Tijuana, A.J must have pictures on his owner. I guess 14-2 under Marty wasn't good enough to not get fired. oh my, thank you Dean, you are the new Al Davis except for the three Superbowls he won with the Raiders

Marty wouldn't kiss AJ's butt. That's the first criterion for "having what it takes" to be a Charger.

Great to see that Spanos has his priorities straight: losing in the playoffs next year, as opposed to actually building a top-flight team over the next three or four years that might actually contend for a ring.

Better to be near Tijuana than in that cesspool known as Oaktown. BTW, San Diego is America's Finest City!

Hey, let's play - GUESS WHICH TEAM THIS IS?
1. This team broke the ALL-TIME record for penalties in a season and penalty yards in a season.
2. Settled for field goals instead of scoring touchdowns in today's game (which cost them the game).
3. Wasted a scoring opportunity at the end of the half because of bad clock management.
4. Stupid play calling during game (and the entire season).
5. Lost chance to go to playoffs because they lost to a "vastly inferior" team.
6. Boos from hometown crowd serenaded them off the field to end their 2011 season.
8. Team's coach did not keep his promise to win the AFC West as he said he would.
Did you guess the Oakland Raiders? Then you would be right! The bully got bullied and stomped on and it is OH SO satisfying for this Boltz fan who has nothing else to root for this season but will at least not have to listen to Raider fans gloat about winning four in a row against us.

BTW, by this time next year the Chargers will be rolling into the playoffs while the vastly overrated Hue Jackson will be shown the door. Just saying.
