Brandon Jacobs is candid about leaving Giants Brad Biggs
Every once in a while it’s refreshing to hear a player be straightforward and honest about a decision in free agency and admit it was about the money.
Because more times than not it’s about nothing but the money.
That’s what Brandon Jacobs admitted about his cross-country relocation to the San Francisco 49ers after a seven-season stint with the New York Giants that included two Super Bowl championships in the last four years.
The Giants cut Jacobs before having to pay him a $500,000 roster bonus in March but there was still a chance he could return to the team. It didn’t happen though.
“It was just money,” Jacobs said on the new CBS’ show “Rome,” according to the Newark Star-Ledger. “That’s all it was, a couple hundred thousand (dollars).”
Jacobs opted to join the 49ers on a one-year deal. He will earn $1.575 million and if the deal tops out at $2 million. Meanwhile, the Giants moved quickly to replace him while also providing insurance for Ahmad Bradshaw as they used their first-round draft pick on David Wilson.
All over a couple hundred thousand bucks.
