Raiders trying to get money back from former top overall pick Aaron Wilson
The Oakland Raiders are done with quarterback JaMarcus Russell as far as him playing football for him after cutting him recently.
However, the oft-litigious Raiders aren't done with Russell as far as financial matters.
They want $9.5 million back from the former top overall pick and have filed a grievance against Russell to recover that money, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.
The Raiders' argument is based on the fact that the contract was altered during the former LSU's rocky three years with the team.
“We have filed a grievance against JaMarcus Russell and that’s all we’re going to say at this time,” Raiders attorney Jeff Birren said.
Russell will be defended by the NFL Players Association.
Russell's agent, Eric Metz, responded to the grievance with the following remarks: "The money in question was fully guaranteed. That is why JaMarcus was forced to hold out and miss all of training camp as a rookie. The Raiders know that and this is our only comment.”
