There has been a JaMarcus Russell sighting, and it's not in Las Vegas or Arizona.

The former top overall pick is taking part in the Oakland Raiders' offseason conditioning program, according to the Oakland Tribune.

The former LSU quarterback had drawn criticism for not showing up on the first day of the workouts.

According to the report, Russell won't be made available to the media.

So, they probably won't be able to confirm Raiders staffer Willie Brown's recent comments that Russell has lost a lot of weight. Brown also said that Russell was absent from the first day because he was finishing the purchase of a house in Alabama.

"You'll be surprised when you see him," Brown said during a Comcast SportsNet interview. "It's quite a bit of weight that he's lost. . . . I don't want to pin it down and say how much he lost but it will be a significant difference when you see him compared to last year. The most important thing is he's getting in shape. Not only losing weight, but getting in shape.

"He's watching his diet, he has special meals brought in that he's eating, and we have one of the Raiders, a former player there with him to monitor him and make sure things are going fine. The weight thing, he'll get it down."

That's music to Al Davis' ears.

Why don't coaches on the team that has a potential bust or an underachieving player that thinks he's doing well, show that player his own stats & show some press clips that say he's not playing well? If they can read their own press clippings when they do well, use them as a tool to motivate players when their not playing as well as they should. I would think a good portion of those guys need to be embarrassed & taken down a few notches in order for them to play well. Russell won't take a paycut but if he saw his stats, etc...maybe the light will go on, even if it's dim.

I hope Russell turns it around too.
