Quarterback practiced today Aaron Wilson
Embattled Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell practiced today.
The question of whether he'll continue to do so and remain a part of the team is unresolved.
Russell said he'll keep working until he's informed of a change in his status. He has been the subject of rumors that he could be released due to his high salary and ineffective play.
Russell answered several questions, but the interview was interrupted quite a few times by a Raiders minder, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
"Only thing I' m here to do is compete until we get the word," said Russell, adding that he hasn't been called by Raiders coach Tom Cable recently. "My thing is to keep coming out to work until they tell me not to. Until then, I'm going to keep coming out, compete for the job and keep working my tail off."
When asked about whether he had spoken with Cable, Eddie Anderson, the Raiders minder, chimed in: "Excuse me, we're not going to discuss that. That's not a big deal."
Russell worked with the second-string offense as Charlie Frye ran the first-team offense, Jason Campbell worked with the third group and Kyle Boller was the fourth quarterback.
When asked about the rumors surrounding him, Russell said, "It’s a business. That aspect, I don’t really have anything to do with that. That’s a higher level than me. My job is to keep coming, to compete every day."
Russell wasn't allowed to answer a question about whether he thinks he can be the starter, which seems fairly innocuous.
"Don’t discuss that," Anderson said. "We’re not going to discuss that."
The topic of possibly restructuring his deal is considered off-limits, too.
"We’re not discussing that either," Anderson said. "I’m sorry."
And when asked to comment on his weight, the interview was halted.
"That’s it," Anderson said. "That’s it guys."
Another exercise in Raiders public relations.

It seems all the media sources don't have a clue when it comes to the Raiders, so they just guess. I believe Cable is doing it the right way, let the quarterbacks go at it, if Russell does his job he'll be on the team and may start, if not he'll get cut....same goes for all Raiders, time to change the culture people!!!
Typical Aaron Wilson. One of the first to report that Russell was 300 pounds but doesn't mention that he looks nowhere near that weight. And then one last little jab at the end. Pretty easy to see he went to the Florio school of Journalism.
I honestly can't remember the last time anyone in the media was correct with news about the Raiders. Seems that all the unnamed sources are full of it. Quit speculating and let it play out on its own. You'll look way less foolish that way.
you caught me. I've been posting under this name for months just for this moment. I've been had.
Yet the Raiders stopped interviews with JaBlubber when anyone mentioned weight? Nothing to see here, just move along.....

Would you like fries with that, sir?

Too funny, great haiku.
I still hope this is what turns Jamarcus around. My wishful thinking at least has him on the bench for another year until he is ready and team is ready. It was hard to put a 22 year old on a bad team and expect him to improve. Don't get me wrong though, most of this is on Jamarcus and his lack of effort and maturity
Playoffs? could we be talking playoffs?

love the haiku

Can you blame them with all the lies you people publish as fact. I see you are not as quick to report that many in the media at the practice claimed Russell looked in great shape and not near to the 270lbs let alone 300 lbs you reported he was.
You report Russell will be cut and if at practice would not be able to practice which was also all dead wrong.
