South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney had a quick response when asked why the Houston Texans should make him the first overall pick of the draft rather than a quarterback.
“You watched the Super Bowl,” said Clowney at the NFL scouting combine in a reference to the Seattle Seahawks' dominating defensive performance against the Denver Broncos. “Defense wins championships.”
Clowney is a freakish athlete at 6-foot-5, 266 pounds. He has set his goal on running the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.
“I want to be one of the best,” Clowney said. “I want to be one of the greatest of all time.''
Clowney admitted that he would have gone to the NFL after his sophomore year if the rules allowed him to do so.
Reacting to South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier saying that he wasn't the hardest worker, Clowney replied: Once I get to the NFL my career is going to go up.”
