Jaguars get Blake Bortles a weapon, draft Marqise Lee

After the news broke Friday evening that Cleveland Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon was facing a possible one-year suspension for a positive drug test, many speculated that the Browns would draft USC wide receiver Marqise Lee with the third pick of the second round.

But Cleveland balked at the notion and instead opted for Nevada offensive tackle Joel Bitonio, which paved the way for the Jacksonville Jaguars—who also possess a wide receiver headed for a lengthy suspension in Justin Blackmon—to acquire Lee’s services.

The Jaguars pulled the trigger on Lee with the seventh selection in the second round (No. 39 overall) to give brand-new franchise quarterback Blake Bortles (No. 3 overall) a weapon entering the 2014 campaign.

The 6-0, 195-pound wideout is coming off a down year at USC (57-791-4), but part of that can be attributed to inconsistent and poor play from the quarterback position. With quarterback Matt Barkley under center in 2012, Lee snagged 118 passes for 1,721 yards and 14 scores.
