The Jacksonville Jaguars, trying to rebuild from a 2-14 season, are leaving no stone unturned as they try to retool their roster for 2013.
So, the Jaguars announced that 18 players, all with varying levels of experience in camps, practice squads or even with time on the 53-man roster, have been invited to a tryout camp of sorts. The players will work with the 59 players the Jaguars already have under contract in a three-day mini-camp as they get their opportunity to impress.
The players expected to attend include DT Ryan Baker (Purdue), S Chris Banjo (SMU), OT Patrick Brown (Central Florida), TE DeMarco Cosby (Central Missour), CB Kennard Cox (Pittsburgh), DE Pannel Egboh (Stanford), LB Stephen Franklin (S. Illinois), C Dan Gerberry (Ball State), LB D.J. Holt (California), C Tyler Horn (Miami), WR Jaymar Johnson (Jackson State), LB Jameson Konz (Kent State), OT James Lee (South Carolina St.), DE Jerome Raymond (Morehead State), WR Owen Spencer (N.C. State), TE Nick Tow-Arnett (Minnesota) and S Matt Ware (UCLA).
Yes, it's a long shot for any of these players to make a roster this way. But if a player or two catches the Jaguars' attention and shows enough to earn a contract and perhaps a spot on the 53-man roster this fall, then the efforts will have been worth it for both the Jags and the players.
