Clock ticking on long-term deal for franchised kicker. Terry McCormick
The Jacksonville Jaguars have reopened talks with franchised kicker Josh Scobee in attempts to get a contract extension done, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Scobee was given the franchise tag by the Jaguars, which opened a window to negotiate a long-term deal. That window closes on July 16, and if no extension can be reached, then Scobee will play under the guaranteed franchise tender of around $2.88 million.
Scobee missed all of the Jaguars off-season work, and absent an extension, might miss training camp too. He has said he will not miss any regular season games, however.
Several kickers have signed new deals, including Tampa Bay's Connor Barth and Denver's Matt Prater.
