It's no secret that Jake Locker is heading into a make-or-break season.
His fifth-year option wasn't picked up, making this a contract year for him. Due to injuries, most recently one to his foot that required surgery, Locker has been limited on the field and hasn't been able to show much as an NFL starting quarterback.
According to Titans offensive coordinator Jason Michael, via the team's official website, Locker has put in the work to earn every opportunity for a new contract.
“From day one, he’s worked his butt off from rehabilitation of his foot to jumping in the playbook, to how he’s gone about his preparation on the field. It’s been a frustrating go at times with his foot, but he’s never shown it. He’s a poised man. I’m excited about working with him. He does some good things that we’ve already seen.”
Locker will need a sound and injury-free season. Otherwise the Titans could give Zach Mettenberger a look mid-season and never look back.
