Kansas City Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles wasn't expecting Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson to deliver such a hard tackle in the Pro Bowl.
Charles wasn't injured, though, weeks after suffering a concussion during a playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Under the new Pro Bowl format, some teammates were on different teams.
"I didn't expect it, but he's out there doing his thing," Charles told reporters. "I can't get mad at him -- it's just about football, and you've just got to be ready."
Johnson lowered his shoulder into Charles' head. Johnson was named the defensive Most Valuable Player with nine tackles.
"If you stand back, he's going to make you look pretty bad," said Johnson, who had nine tackles in the game. "So I had to go out and really give it to him. I would never try to hurt my teammate at all, but compete a little bit."
