James Andrews terms RG-3's knee surgery a success

Dr. James Andrews has termed the reconstruction of Robert Griffin III’s right knee a success following surgery today.

Andrews performed the surgery today, three days after Griffin was knocked out of a wild-card round loss to the Seattle Seahawks at FedEx Field.

“Robert Griffin III had successful knee surgery early this morning,” Andrews said in a statement, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. “He had a direct repair of his LCL and a re-do of his previous ACL reconstruction. We expect a full recovery and it is everybody's hope and belief that due to Robert's high motivation, he will be ready for the 2013 season.”

But this likely means Griffin will miss the entire offseason program and it is certainly possible he will miss time during training camp. Some have compared his situation to that of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. But Peterson made a fast-tracked recovery that was stunning to all and it would be unfair to expect Griffin to follow a similar timeline.
