James Ihedigbo: Lions have championship DNA

James Ihedigbo likes what he sees out of his Detroit Lions teammates thus far.

The confident safety that worked his way up to a starting role with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 said as much when asked about the upcoming season. Ihedigbo likes this group so much that he thinks they could be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

"It's one of those things, you can feel it," Ihedigbo told MLive.com. "With this team, I can feel the makings of a championship-DNA team. Are we willing to sacrifice? That's the question, and I know we are. There are guys in this locker room that are willing to pay the price, whatever it is, to put the work in to be a champion. Yeah, we definitely have that championship DNA."

The Lions do have a talented roster and should be better defensively this year. In addition, the offense added Golden Tate at receiver to take some of the pressure off of Calvin Johnson in the passing game. Of course, a lot of Detroit's success will depend on how well Jim Caldwell performs as the club's new head coach this year.
