Jared Allen is far off the pace he set a year ago when he came within one sack of setting the NFL record for a single season.

The Minnesota Vikings defensive end had 3 ½ sacks in the season finale last year against the Chicago Bears and probably would have reached the mark against Bears left tackle J’Marcus Webb had then offensive coordinator Mike Martz not finally given in and started giving help to Webb.

With the Vikings tied for first place atop the NFC North with the Bears, Allen has only three sacks, recording one in each of the last three games. It doesn’t seem to be bothering the 30-year-old Allen.

I'll take one a game for the rest of my career and be a happy man," Allen said, according to Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

It is a good bet Allen will finish in double-digits again. The last time he didn’t have at least 11 sacks was 2006 when he finished with 7 ½ in Kansas City, his second-to-final season with the Chiefs. Allen has 108 career sacks in 130 games, averaging 0.83 per game.
