Jason Garrett talks around issue of play calling

Confused yet by the offseason in Dallas?

Maybe you should be.

Jason Garrett has done a significant makeover on his coaching staff but the coach still can’t say who will be calling offensive plays this season. It’s at least curious as owner Jerry Jones has let it be known the man calling plays will not be Garrett. The assumption has been Bill Callahan, who is expected to serve as offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, would handle the duty.

Not so fast.

“As we go, we’ll work through it,” Garrett said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “We trust the process and we’re pretty confident we’ll get it right.”

Garrett insinuated the Cowboys would not have to have a decision until the preseason rolls around in August. He has been the man calling the plays for the previous six seasons and it is hard to imagine he likes the idea of ceding the responsibility to someone else.

“It’s a collective process,” Garrett explained. “We gameplan together. It’s not like everyone sits around and I come up with the gameplan. That’s not how we operate. We have never operated that way. I think it’s stupid to operate that way. When you have great resources on your staff, you try to rely on those resources during the week and during the ballgame.
 

“That’s always how we’ve done it. It’s worked pretty well for us.”

We’ll see what happens here. There can be no surprises in this situation.
