Taylor has agreed to terms with the Jets on a two-year contract Aaron Wilson
Now that he has agreed to terms with the New York Jets, former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Jason Taylor bid goodbye to the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins made no attempt to retain Taylor. He indicated that his agent, Gary Wichard, contacted the Dolphins to inform them of the Jets' two-year offer. They didn't respond.
Ultimately, Taylor went with the team that wanted him.
"This is the only offer," Taylor told Miami reporters during a news conference. "There is no other offer."
Taylor, who had a meeting with coach Tony Sparano cancelled recently, acknowledged that he declined a contract extension offer last November.
That deal was offered by Dolphins executive Bill Parcells.
"It wasn't the right time," Taylor said. "If I was important enough in November, why don't you want me now? I'm better now. My shoulder works now. ..
"Maybe I grew up old school, but our focus was on playoffs not time to talk money. And why would I not want to do a deal w/o my agent. .. What is a Parcells guy? I always felt like I was a Tony guy."
Now, Taylor, 35, is a Rex Ryan guy.
And Ryan has a plan to turn Taylor loose after the quarterback.
Taylor has 127 1/2 career sacks.
"I think I have a lot to offer, but there's only two of us who think that," Taylor said. "Me and Rex."
