Jeff Fisher called the St. Louis Rams “the best fit” for him after a protracted process in which he chose between them and the Miami Dolphins.
The timeline gets a little bizarre, but according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Fisher notified Rams owner Stan Kroenke sometime Thursday, telling him he wanted to be his next coach. Because nothing was official, the Rams continued on their way to San Francisco where they intended to interview New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer.
Then, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross grew impatient for an answer on Friday, basically pushing Fisher into a decision. It leaked out Fisher had chosen the Rams and here we are with Fisher now needed to get a contract in place.
“The process has been lengthy, but for good reasons,” Fisher told the Post-Dispatch. “I took a lot of time looking at and exploring in detail the non-economic issues of both clubs.
“I'm really excited that the Rams are the best fit for me. I hope I'm the best fit for the Rams, and am looking forward to finalizing the (contract) details and coming to work.”
What exactly took place in the nearly two weeks it took for Fisher to come to a decision, we might not ever know. Now, he has to get a deal done and put together a coaching staff. Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ search continues.
