The Miami Dolphins are coming off a disappointing 7-9 season.
Following an offseason where they acquired wide receiver Brandon Marshall, the Dolphins are upbeat about their prospects.
"I feel great where we're at," Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland told the Miami Herald. "Tony Sparano feels good, Bill Parcells as well. Across the board offensively, we are going to be better. The acquisition of Brandon Marshall. Chad Henne and Brian Hartline have another year under their belt. Greg Camarillo's healthy. Ronnie Brown and Patrick Cobbs will be healthy, Ricky Williams is back.
"Defensively, we've gotten more athletic at linebacker, that was a key point for us. We're young at outside linebacker but we've got some talent there. Those guys are going to have to grow up fast. Nothing really concerns me. There are some things we're still looking at. You can't fix everything. You certainly try. There's just not a whole lot of acorns off a tree that we're looking at.''
When asked if the Dolphins are ready to threaten the New York Jets or the New Englandd Patriots, Ireland replied: "You've got to get into the season to answer that.''
Ireland said that the team didn't add a veteran linebacker because it could stop the progress of younger players, but didn't rule out adding someone who could make an impact.
And the team hasn't decided whether it's keeping four quarterbacks or if Pat White will be deployed at another position.
