Jerome Murphy runs a 4.48

University of South Florida cornerback Jerome Murphy ran a 4.48 in the 40-yard dash during his Pro Day workout today with 26 NFL teams attending, including three NFL head coaches in Marvin Lewis, Tom Coughlin and Lovie Smith.

"It went really good," Murphy told National Football Post tonight. 

Murphy said he spoke with the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals and has a message to return from the Baltimore Ravens.

Murphy has a private workout on Wednesday with the Cleveland Browns.

Then, he'll go on his visit with the Minnesota Vikings.

He stood on his NFL scouting combine work for all other testing after ranking high in every category at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Murphy is also scheduled to attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' local prospect day and has visits or workouts with the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, the St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks.

At the combine, Murphy ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds, bench presssed 225 pounds 16 times and registered a 38-inch vertical leap, a 10-7 broad jump, a 4.05 short shuttle and a 6.87 three-cone drill.

Last season, the second-team All-Big East Conference selection recorded a career-high 77 tackles and four interceptions. As a junior, the Elizabeth, N.J., native posted 68 tackles and two interceptions.

"My mentality about the game is that anybody that lines up in front of me to never let them get the best of you," Murphy said. "I'm looking at it like that guy is trying to embarrass me. I hate to look bad."

Murphy met with 14 teams at the scouting combine.

Throughout the draft process, including the Senior Bowl and the combine, he said the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Redskins have had a lot of contact with him.

"I like Baltimore," Murphy said. "They showed a lot of interest. I've met with them and I had a real good feeling with them and the Redskins. I like other teams, too, but you get a certain vibe with the Ravens and the Redskins."
