New York Jets troubled running back Mike Goodson has been suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
“While we welcome Mike back to the organization, we have had direct conversations to make our expectations very clear as we work together to help him move forward in a positive manner, both on and off the field,” the Jets said in a statement.
Goodson reported to camp after being absent throughout camp. He was arrested on weapons and drug charges during the offseason.Tight end Hayden Smith was released.
“I’ve been away from the team to take care of some important personal things,” Goodson said in a statement. “The time was helpful to me and now that I am back, I am going to do everything I can to contribute to the team. I appreciate all of the support from the Jets organization and I’m thankful to be back with my teammates.”
Goodson is on the active non-football injury-illness list.
Goodson was arrested in New Jersey in May as the passenger in a stopped car on the highway in New Jersey where police found a .45-caliber handgun in the vehicle.
Goodson was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun and possession of a hollow-point bullet. The case is pending.
