The New York Jets have agreed to a contract extension with Pro Bowl offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
Ferguson received a six-year, $60 million extension that included $34.8 million in guaranteed money, a league source confirmed.
"D'Brickashaw has got a lot of security with this contract," Brad Blank, Ferguson's agent, told National Football Post in a telephone interview. "He's a very cool customer. The deal really came together in the last week or so. In the last 48 hours, it almost fell apart once. But we reached a compromise that's a great deal for both sides.
"D'Brickashaw grew up in Long Island. It means a lot to him to play for the Jets. He wants to be there for his entire career. He's been to the mountaintop. Now, he wants to make it to the promised land. Maybe they can make this a dynasty. That's his vision."
Ferguson becomes the first of the Jets' core players to receive a new deal.
This will only amp up the pressure to sign cornerback Darrelle Revis, who wants a huge contract.
Ferguson had two years left on his six-year, $37.5 million rookie deal.
The Jets also hope to re-sign center Nick Mangold and linebacker David Harris.
