The New York Jets made it official, brokering a one-year deal with former Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.

"We bolstered our secondary, agreeing to terms with Ed Reed a day after the veteran safety cleared waivers," the Jets announced..

Reed went unclaimed off waivers after being cut by theTexans and is now a free agent.

The former Ravens star was signed to a three-year, $15 million during the offseason that included a $2 million signing bonus and $5 million in guaranteed money.

The 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year had offseason hip surgery and struggled in seven games played this season.

He recorded just 16 tackles, no interceptions, no pass deflections or forced fumbles this season and has frequently allowed big plays.
