The New York Jets are cutting veteran quarterback Brady Quinn today so as to not have to guarantee his salary for the entire season as a vested veteran.

He was replaced on the active roster with linebacker Danny Lansanah promoted from the practice squad.

The move makes sense financially.

It won't make as much sense if rookie quarterback Geno Smith has a problem with his ankle again.

Quinn worked out for the Jets recently and last played for the Seattle Seahawks.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez, the former starter, is due an $8.25 million guaranteed salary and is sidelined with a bruised joint to his throwing shoulder.
