New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was carted off the field with an ankle injury.

Jets coach Rex Ryan is crossing his fingers that it's not a high-ankle sprain, which would remove one of the top defensive linemen in the league from the field for a long time.

Wilkerson is extremely valuable, emerging as one of the better young defensive players in the league since being drafted in the first round out of Temple.

.“It is an ankle, I believe,” Ryan said. “So we will see how he is. Hopefully it is not a high ankle because those are rough. But I am hoping that it’s not, but I am not sure yet.”
