The New York Jets made it official, placing backup defensive end Ropati Pitoitua on injured reserve.
He tore his left Achilles' tendon against the Carolina Panthers.
Pitoitua posted six tackles in eight games last season.
He spent the previous year on the Jets' practice squad.
The 6-foot-8, 310-pounder is expected to recover in time to play next season.
