The New York Jets don't have to worry about any quarterback controversy following injured former starter Mark Sanchez declaring he won the quarterback competition with rookie Geno Smith.

They just placed Sanchez on the injured reserve-designated to return list, meaning he's out for at least eight weeks.

That means Smith won't have Sanchez looking over his shoulder.

Sanchez has a shoulder injury that doesn't require surgery immediately where he could potentially rehab the injury and return this season.

He got hurt playing at the end of a meaningless preseason game.

During the preseason, Sanchez completed 28 of 42 passes for 366 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions and had a 90.0 passer rating.

Sanchez isn't expected to return after this season.
