Jets plan to move Coples to linebacker

Quinton Coples' strength coming into the draft last season was as a pass rusher.

Many teams and draft analysts believed he was the best 4-3 end available in the draft. So that's why it was a surprise to some that the New York Jets drafted Coples last year and played him at end in their 3-4 scheme.

Coples did well enough there, with 5.5 sacks at a position not usually condusive to getting a lot of pressure on the quarterback..

Now, ESPNNewYork reports that the Jets will try Coples at outside linebacker, which should help him see an increase in his sack numbers, provided he can adjust to playing in the two-point stance.

The move of Coples apparently is part of the reason why the Jets spent the 13th pick in the draft on Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, likely now grooming for the end spot vacated by Coples.
