Greene, Tomlinson vying for carries Aaron Wilson
The New York Jets are envisioning a productive backfield tandem between Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson, and that doesn't mean Tomlinson would only be Greene's caddy.
Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn told ESPN New York that, "I see myself as having two starters."
Although Greene is expected to start after contributing heavily as a rookie behind Thomas Jones, the Jets expect to use L.T., too.
He could figure into the game plan as a third-down back like Leon Washington.
"It depends on the flow of the game. If we're better off in our big personnel, Shonn will get more touches," Lynn said. said. " If we go little, like we did last year with Leon in our nickel package, L.T. will get more touches. It's all situational."
For Greene to horde the playing time, he'll need to stay healthy and be in shape.
Per the report, the Jets are concerned about Greene's conditioning after he showed up seven pounds overweight for the offseason training program.
"Down the road, he has to learn to play with pain and discomfort." Lynn said.
